Hey Wānaka, ready to get avy savvy? We’re hosting an Avalanche Awareness night on Thursday 6 August, and you’re invited.

We’ll be kicking off at 6:30pm at the Mons Royale store, for an entry-level or refresher session led by Tom Willmott. Tom is an avalanche expert with an Avalanche Risk Management (Level 6) certification, and was the first snowboarder to qualify through the NZ Mountain Guide Association. He’s also a Backcountry First Responder and Head Olympic Coach for the NZ Snowboard Team.

We’ll chat avalanche theory and get hands on with transceiver searches, airbag deployment and gear handling. There might even be Merino prizes, so bring your A game 👀
