Pack less, do more, keep your pants on

There’s nothing like going from camp to hike to lakeside beers without taking your pants off.

You’ve just landed at your make-shift adventure base, tent in hand and mate in tow. You cruise in with a backpack, he drags in a 60L hiking pack. You watch him pull out five pairs of pants, six tees. To be safe, he says. One cosy morning pair, one for his morning run, one for the hike, one for lakeside lounging, one for the ride home. It’s an overnight trip. His bag would fit a small horse. You’re in the same gear you’ll wear the whole trip.

We’re all for packing more into every adventure. Getting outdoors any way you can, exploring nature’s playground. Being alive. What we’re not into is packing for six and taking your kit off every time you switch lanes. And with the All-Mission Pant and All-Terrain Short-Sleeve Shirt, there’s no need.

Hiking? Made for it. Running through the hills? Done, and with style. Lounging by the lake, knees under a beer? Leave it on, you’ve never looked more at home. Meet the kit built for multi-day adventures, multi-adventure days, and all the social spillovers in between.

Behind the design

Back in the early ski-bum days of Mons Royale, our driving force was creating Merino pieces that did more. That worked hard up the hill, but were also well-rounded enough to wear off the hill. That looked good when you skied, better when you après-ed. Pieces that moved across missions, that let you add more to your day without adding more to your pack. Ring any bells?

That’s exactly what the All-Mission Pant and All-Terrain Shirt are all about. One piece of kit that works no matter where you take it. One fit for every mission, every terrain, every temperature, every time of day. With a Merino system that adapts as fast as you do, this range is all about carrying less, doing more and going further.

The Adventure: Putting the threads through the paces

Naturally, we had to put it to the test. For purely informational purposes. The day started with an early sunrise from Bendigo, dusty light washing the caravan windows and the All-Mission Pants and AT Short-Sleeve Shirt the obvious choice for the day. Slow cuppa in hand, no outfit maths required.

A vague plan shaped up over breakfast with the crew (with excellent input and scrap-hunting from Lei, camp hound). The All-Mission gear brought natural comfort in a camping chair, then again when packs were shouldered and the hike got underway.

Making our way through the stunning Bendigo rock, our Merino fits naturally regulated temps as the day warmed, wicking moisture before we even noticed it building. The all-natural AT Merino Short-Sleeve fit right into the landscape with its Merino-Tencel blend and natural buttons. No clammy cotton, no synthetic shine. Just quick-drying, temp-regulating Merino that looked as good as it felt.

Soon, the trail gave way to rocks. And with rocks came rock hopping, running through hills, a pinch of scrambling and more than a few view-stops. No matter how we moved, the All-Mission Pants moved with us, a Merino and Nylon blend that breathed, stretched and went the distance whether we charged ahead or slowed the pace. Hem drawcords cinched for the rough stuff, pockets earned their keep, and our phones, snacks and keys stayed stashed where they should.

One lake stop later, and it was time to head home for a cold sunset beer. No surprise, the All-Mission Pants and AT Merino Shirt were a natural fit.

Moral of the story? Pack less. Do more. Don’t be the 60L guy, and for the love of Merino, keep your pants on.
